Primary School Reorganisation in Southway

A Plymouth City Council school reorganisation project in partnership with the Southernway Federation, comprising Langley Infant, Langley Junior, Southway Primary and Tamerton Vale Primary Schools.

From September 2008, all four schools will close, to be replaced by two new primary schools, one on the current Langley site, the other on the site of the former community college in Southway.

The new school at Langley - Oakwood Primary School - will have 315 pupil places and an Admission Number of 45. The other - Beechwood Primary School - will have 420 pupil places and an Admission Number of 60.

The City Council is investing £12 million in these schools and their community facilities. The Langley premises will be remodelled and refurbished, whilst the school to be built on the former community college site will be brand new.

This initiative by the Federation and the City Council, working in partnership with the local community, promises to be an exciting and innovative change in the way primary education is organised and run in Southway. It is expected to bring significant benefits to pupils, teachers, parents and the local community and have a major impact on the quality of teaching and learning in the area.

This reorganisation gained final approval from the School Organisation Committee for Plymouth in November 2006, following detailed consultations with all interested parties and the completion of all statutory procedures.
