Dog control order notice

Under the Part 6 of the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005 Plymouth City Council has made the following dog control orders. The orders will come into effect on 7 April 2008.

Dogs fouling of land order

The order applies to all land within the administrative area of Plymouth City Council (shown edged red on the map contained in the order) which is open to the air (including land which is covered but open to the air on at least one side) and to which the public are entitled or permitted to have access with or without payment. Some of the land affected is access land under the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000. This is land at Glenholt and the river Plym.

The order creates an offence for a person who is in charge of a dog which defecates on any land affected by the order to fail to remove such faeces straight away. There are exemptions for guide dogs and disabled people using trained assistance dogs. Any offence under the order is punishable on conviction by a maximum fine of £1,000.

The order may be inspected and copies obtained from the Civic Centre First Stop reception between 8.30am and 5pm Monday to Friday and the reception desk of Windsor House between 8.30am and 5pm Monday to Thursday and 8.30am and 4.30pm Friday.

Dogs on leads by direction order

The order applies to all land within the administrative area of Plymouth City Council (shown edged red on the map contained in the order) which is open to the air on at least one side and to which the public are entitled or permitted to have access with or without payment. Some of the land affected is access land under the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000. This is land at Glenholt and the River Plym.

The order creates an offence for a person who is in charge of a dog not to comply with a direction given to him by an authorised officer of the Council to put and keep the dog on a lead. Any offence under the order is punishable on conviction by a maximum fine of £1,000.

The order may be inspected and copies obtained from the Civic Centre First Stop reception between 8.30am and 5pm Monday to Friday and the reception desk of Windsor House between 8.30am and 5pm Monday to Thursday and 8.30am and 4.30pm Friday.

Dogs exclusion order

The order applies to all land within the Council’s administrative area signed at its entrance(s) as a 'dog exclusion' area (whether the sign uses those particular words or words and/or symbols having like effect) comprising of any fenced, hedged, walled or otherwise enclosed children’s play area (owned or managed by the Council), bowling green, croquet lawn, tennis court, skateboard park, putting green, crazy golf or school grounds. The order also applies to Efford Cemetery and Weston Mill Cemetery

The order creates an offence for a person who is in charge of a dog to take the dog onto or permit the dog to enter or to remain on any land to which the order applies. Such offence is punishable on conviction by a maximum fine of £1000. There are exemptions for guide dogs, hearing dogs and disabled people using trained assistance dogs.

The order may be inspected and copies obtained from the Civic Centre First Stop reception between 8.30am and 5pm Monday to Friday and the reception desk of Windsor House between 8.30am and 5pm Monday to Thursday and 8.30am and 4.30pm Friday.

Dogs on leads order

The order applies to all land within the administrative area of Plymouth City Council comprising of all Plymouth City Council owned and managed sports pitches when within the marked pitch/playing areas and also to the following areas which are shown edged red on maps referred to below:

  1. Pounds House Gardens, Plymouth
  2. West Hoe Park, West Hoe, Plymouth
  3. Moor View Park, Mutley, Plymouth
  4. Stoke Damerel Park, Stuart Road, Stoke, Plymouth
  5. Houndiscombe Park, Mutley, Plymouth
  6. Thorn Park, Mutley, Plymouth

The order creates an offence for a person who is in charge of a dog not to keep that dog on a lead on any land affected by the order. Such offence is punishable on conviction by a maximum fine of £1,000.

The order may be inspected and copies obtained from the Civic Centre First Stop reception between 8.30am and 5pm Monday to Friday and the reception desk of Windsor House between 8.30am and 5pm Monday to Thursday and 8.30am and 4.30pm Friday.
