Building Control

Building Control regulates the construction of buildings, ensuring they meet the standards set out in the Building Regulations. We make sure that buildings are structurally sound, safe in the event of fire, have adequate drainage, ventilation and toilet facilities, are accessible for disabled persons and are energy efficient to heat and light.

The Building Regulations are supported by technical documents that set out acceptable standards to which buildings should be constructed. Building Control ensure these standards are met, by approving drawings and calculations as well as inspecting work on-site.

Pre-application advice

We are happy to participate and comment throughout the early stages of the design, visit designers offices if you prefer and aim to deliver you a trouble free service. We constantly monitor and measure our service against published standards and actively encourage customer feedback.

We will provide advice on charges to ensure costs are minimised, process applications within prescribed time scales, will undertake any necessary consultation with our in house services and external organisations and co-ordinate their responses to you. We are able to accept electronic drawings, provide structural and access advice and can accept payments by credit/debit card.
