Do I need to make an application
Some examples of work that require an application:
- new building
- structural alterations
- extensions
- loft conversions
- underpinning
- alterations to means of escape
Various works can be carried out without the need to submit an application. These include repair of existing elements eg replacement of defective lintels, replacement slates etc.
Some minor buildings and extensions are exempt from control providing they are built at ground level:
- detached buildings with a floor area of less than 15m² with no sleeping accommodation
- extensions forming a conservatory porch or covered walkway with a floor area of less than 30m² (including car ports open on at least two sides)
- private motor garages with less than 30m² floor area and at least 1m from the boundary
- certain greenhouses and agricultural buildings
- temporary buildings (maximum 28 days)
