Dangerous structures

Plymouth City Council building control are empowered to act, in the interest of health and safety, where it appears that buildings or structures are in a dangerous condition.

If you are the owner of the property causing concern, you are expected to arrange for the removal of the danger.

Should an owner fail to carry out necessary works, an order requiring the work to be done will be sought from the Magistrates Court. Failure to comply with the court order within the specified time will result in the Council arranging for the work to be done and costs recovered.

Where building control surveyors consider the conditions warrant emergency measures the officer has the power to authorise immediate remedial work.
