Dockyard Port of Plymouth Order 1999

"A large and valuable resource for recreational, commercial and naval activities is provided by the estuaries"

In meeting the requirements of users of the estuaries, access and the designation of areas for specific activities is crucial to achieving a balanced and co-ordinated estuary.

There are a number of controls introduced to accommodate for such a wide range of uses and users with other regulations and controls, introduced in the interests of public health and safety.

The Queen's Harbour Master, Plymouth is the regulatory authority of the waterspace in the Dockyard Port of Plymouth. Regulations are communicated to the public in the Dockyard Port of Plymouth Order.

These provide for the safe navigation of craft within the harbour. The Queen's Harbour Master has designated high speed areas for water skiing, jet-skiing and power boating. Zones have also been designated for swimming at Bovisand Bay, Crownhill Bay, Cawsand Bay, Tinside Bay and Firestone Bay.

In the interests of safety the Queen's Harbour Master has prohibited diving and fishing in designated areas under regulations in the Dockyard Order.
