Environmental issues
Within its corporate objectives, the City Council has made a commitment to 'a clean and green city that makes the most of its environment and location'. The Council will therefore contribute to sustainable development through the delivery of Council services.
The City Council has now identified its own carbon footprint of 121,737 tonnes of CO2 in 2006 to 2007 and, with the help of the carbon trust, has now completed a 5 year action plan to reduce its own emissions by:
- 20% by 2013
- 60% by 2020
- 80% by 2050
The Council’s corporate approach to sustainable development will include a renewed emphasis on:
- climate change
- local environmental quality and liveability
- the monitoring of sustainability through indicators
- Plymouth’s ecofootprint project
- Plymouth’s fairtrade city status
