Regulation and inspection
The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 places responsibilities on employers, managers, employees and the self employed for protecting the health and safety of those who may be employed, visiting or carrying out work on their work premises.
Officers from the environmental regulation service undertake visits to business premises to check that safe and healthy conditions are provided for all employees and visitors.
To raise the profile of health and safety in small low risk businesses, the environmental regulation service has introduced a system of health and safety self-assessment to help both you and our enforcement officers ensure that you are complying with health and safety legislation. This replaces the traditional health and safety visits to your premises.
