Massage and special treatment licence
These are premises, which provide a wide variety of treatments, the main ones being sauna, massage and sun beds.
Special treatments also include all beauty treatments provided by salons ie leg waxing, manicure, pedicure, facials, eyelash tinting, electrolysis, aromatherapy, steam, shiatsu, reflexology, colour therapy, Geopathic Stress (GS) treatment, hydrotherapy.
For massage, sunbed, aromatherapy, steam, sauna, manicure, pedicure, shiatsu, reflexology, colour therapy, GS, hydrotherapy you do not need a licence.
Skin piercing
Skin piercing does not require a licence, but does require registration under the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982 (as amended), for which there is a fee of £35 per application. Proprietors carrying out the business of skin piercing need to be registered as do the premises from where they operate.

In order to meet the registration requirements the proprietor and the premises must comply with the bylaws. (These bylaws are in the process of being abolished and a new set will be introduced).
Hairdressing
Hairdressing requires registration under the Plymouth City Council Act 1987. There is no fee for this. Please use the application form in the documents table below for registration.
