Annual Achievements Report 2007 to 2008
Planning Services is committed to celebrating its successes. Our staff have worked hard on a whole range of projects and initiatives throughout the last year.
Having put in place a vision for Plymouth to be one of Europe's finest waterfront cities in November 2003, we translated this vision into the new statutory spatial planning framework introduced by the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004.
We won recognition for this work by winning the 2005 Royal Town Planning Institute's silver jubilee cup. In March 2006 the Local Development Framework Core Strategy became only the 5th in the country to be adopted, and as at April 2008, is still the only one adopted for a major English city. We also adopted our Local Economic Strategy in November 2006.
We have already adopted more Local Development Framework documents than any other authority in the country, and our ambitious programme of Area Action Plans is providing the details on delivery for each part of the city.
As a city, as a City Council, and as a service, we are now moving from 'vision', through 'strategy' to 'delivery'. Plymouth is one of the 29 national new growth points and is committed to providing in the order of 32,000 new homes and 42,000 new jobs. The cranes on the sky line are a testament to our ability to work with investors to make things happen.
Our first annual achievements report 2007 to 2008 highlights some of our most recent successes.
