Garden waste collection
The garden waste collection scheme is a pilot scheme collecting garden waste fortnightly. The collection is in reusable plastic bags and two are provided to each household in the trial area on request. The garden waste is sent to be composted.
- This year's scheme will run from 31 March 2008 until 31 October 2008 inclusive
- Collections will take place on the same day as the doorstep recycling collections. To find out your collection day please contact us.
- Garden waste can only be put out for collection in the bags supplied
- All bags must be placed out for collection at the front boundary of your property by 6.30am on your collection day
- Eligible households are allocated two reusable bags for their garden waste
- The scheme is restricted to two bags per household per collection
- To request replacement bags please contact us
Am I eligible for the garden waste collection scheme?
The garden waste collection scheme is currently only available to residents in certain areas. Lists of streets receiving garden waste collections (by day of the week) can be downloaded from the documents table below. Collections take place on the same days as kerbside recycling collections. If you have just moved to the area or are unsure of your day of collection please contact us.
What can I put into my garden waste bag?
The following items can be put into your garden waste bag:
- Grass cuttings
- Hedge trimmings
- Weeds, plants and twigs
- Branches (up to the thickness of your wrist)
- Cut flowers
The following items must not be placed in your garden waste bag:
- Japanese knotweed or ragwort
- Vegetable peelings

The garden waste ban
- Garden waste is banned from brown bins and black rubbish bags in areas eligible to take part in the garden waste collection scheme
- The ban is only in operation for the months the scheme is running
- When the service is not running during the winter months, you can dispose of garden waste in brown bins or in black rubbish bags or take it to one of our household waste recycling centres
In future years, the scheme may be extended to run over the winter period.
