Recycling centres
Chelson Meadow and Weston Mill are open seven days a week for the general public to dispose of household waste. As well as disposing of household waste you can take along your garden waste which will be turned into compost which you can then buy back!
Chelson Meadow recycling centre

Located close to the landfill site near Plymstock, the site is open 364 days a year, closing only on Christmas Day.
The centre is open between 8.30am and 7.30pm from March to October and between 8.30am and 6pm from November to February.
Domestic cars and those towing trailers are permitted free of charge. Vans disposing of domestic waste are accepted providing they have a current permit. This permit system is not for commercial waste, please visit our trade accounts for commercial and trade waste page for information on disposing of trade and commercial waste.
The following household materials are currently being sent for re-use or recycling at processing plants around the country.
- cans (steel and aluminium)
- car batteries
- cardboard
- cooking oil
- engine oil
- fridges/freezers
- furniture and bric-a-brac
- glass bottles and jars
- green garden waste
- LPG (liquid petroleum gas) bottles
- newspapers and magazines
- plastic bottles
- scrap metal
- soil and hardcore
- textiles
- waste wood
- white goods
- sanitary ware (sinks, toilets and bath tubs)
- waste oil
Plymouth residents can also dispose of bulky domestic non-recyclable waste, household hazardous waste and bonded asbestos at Chelson Meadow.
If you are disposing of bonded asbestos from your home, you should bear in mind the following points:
- if possible wrap the asbestos before bringing it to the site
- you should not cut, chop, drill or break it
- when you arrive at the site, please tell a member of staff what you are carrying, they will then direct you to the disposal point and ask you to complete a simple form to identify where the asbestos came from

Located near Weston Mill cemetery, the site is open 364 days a year, closing only on Christmas Day.
The centre is open between 9am and 6pm throughout the year. Vans are not accepted at Weston Mill.
Plymouth residents can dispose of bulky domestic waste, but the Weston Mill site is a lot smaller than the site at Chelson Meadow and provides a more limited range of recycling facilities.
They are:

The site cannot accept bonded asbestos.
