Help with Google Maps

We use Google Maps on this website to show locations such as car parks, council buildings, events or other map related information. If you have not used Google Maps before, and require assistance, you may find the following information helpful.

Navigating in Google Maps

You can navigate (move your view) in two dimensions in any Google Map. To pan (move the map), do one of the following:

  • Click and drag the map
  • Press the up arrow on your keyboard to move north
  • Press the down arrow on your keyboard to move south
  • Press the right arrow on your keyboard to move east
  • Press the left arrow on your keyboard to move west

In addition, you can zoom in or out by pressing the + or - keys. Move the cursor over a location and use the mouse scroll button to zoom in or out of that location. To centre and zoom in on a location, double-click the location.

Navigation controls include:

  1. Arrows - click the appropriate arrow buttons to move the view north, south, east or west. Click to return to your original view.
  2. Street view - drag the figure to a street to see the street view (not available in all areas).
  3. Zoom - click + to zoom in on the centre of the map. Click - to zoom out.
  4. Zoom slider - drag the zoom slider up or down to zoom in or out incrementally.

Viewing info windows

Google Maps information window

Info windows appear when you click a marker and display additional information about the location. To view the info window for a marker, do one of the following:

  • Click the marker
  • Click the marker in the Search results tab
  • Click the appropriate link in the Search results tab
