Plymouth On A Map Help

Plymouth On A Map (POAM) is a Plymouth City Council map-based website that shows points of interest (e.g. swimming pools, parks, car parks, grit bins etc) and also allows you to make reports to the us, using the map, if something is wrong or needs attention (e.g. a pothole, abandoned vehicle).

Plymouth On A Map is based on Google map technology and can operate via a postcode search.

Viewing points of interest

When you first access Plymouth On A Map, by default, the map will show nothing apart from the reports that have been approved:

Navigation / help options appear under the grey banner, above the map and in the left hand column.

You have the option to:

  • Enter a postcode that will centre the map on the postcode
  • Hide search options to hide the options directly below this link
  • Choose a category and then item in that category to show information on the map
  • Visit one our partners' website with the links at the bottom of the page

When you select a point of interest the map will change to show various icons that are colour-coded for the specific category. For example:

Clicking on one of the icons will show a small speech bubble with the relevant information. For example:

Making a report

To make a report, either use the postcode to navigate to the desired location or drag / zoom the map to move to the right place. Clicking once on the map will show a small box that appears asking the customer to choose a category:

Briefly, at the top of the form we ask you to note the location, supply a brief description and upload a picture if you have one. We need your contact details and with the exception of the image, all fields are mandatory. Once complete a confirmation message is shown and a copy of the report emailed to you for your records.

At the same time, a message is sent to the relevant Department so they can try to resolve the problem or issue.

Once approved, the report will show on the map as an icon for other people to view.
