Decent homes

Council housing in Plymouth will have to meet certain standards by 2010 in order to be meet the decent homes standard, these are:

Fitness

For example:

• be structurally stable
• be free from disrepair
• be free from damp levels that could affect the health of the tenant and any other residents

Reasonable state of repair

• The foundation of the building, the external walls, the windows and the roof must be in a reasonable state of repair

Reasonably modern facilities

For example:

• kitchen of 20 years old or less
• bathroom of 30 years old or less
• adequate noise insulation

Thermal comfort

For example:

• all homes to have a central heating system with timing and temperature controls
• all homes to have effective insulation
