Energy Efficiency Discount Scheme

Plymouth City Council are promoting different insulation schemes across the city in order to encourage residents to take advantage of subsidised prices towards loft insulation and cavity wall insulation. Letters are currently now being distributed to households across Plymouth by the HEAT project. Canvassers, working for local installers Miller Pattison Ltd, are also currently knocking on doors of homes across the North of the city. All canvassers that are working in conjunction with Plymouth City Council should be carrying identification and have a Plymouth City Council letter with them. We are aware that other legitimate companies are also currently marketing similar schemes, but if you have any concerns or require any further information please contact the Home Energy Team using the contact details at the top of the page.

£300 Heating Grant extended for year

Energy Performance Certificates from August

Homeowners will be required to obtain an Energy Performance Certificate when they sell their home. The Energy Performance Certificate includes an energy banding system similar to the stickers we see on fridges, washing machines and other appliances. They tell us how energy efficient our home is and therefore how much our home will cost to run. The lower the energy band the more expensive it will be to keep warm. The introduction of the Energy Performance Certificate has been delayed, and will be phased in from August. From 1 August 2007 an Energy Performance Certificate will be required for properties with four or more bedrooms. Your estate agent should have up to date information, but if you’re really keen you can get the latest information from the Communities and Local Government website newsroom.

Energy White Paper published

The Government’s Energy White Paper was published in May. At 343 pages its probably only going to be read by real energy anoraks like us in the Home Energy Team for example! There is a very useful executive summary that’s worth a browse though. For more information go to the Energy White Paper page of the Department of Trade and Industry website.
