Application for housing
Applications can be made using the application form, which is available from any local housing office or can be downloaded from the documents table below. The forms include a section to indicate which area(s) you wish to be considered for housing in. For more information see the letting areas and street list pages. You can download a list of the number, type and number of bedrooms of the properties in each area from the documents table below.
Once you have made a valid application, this will be assessed and placed into a band. You will receive a letter from us, which tells you which band you have been placed in, your 'start date' in that band, together with the size of home we have assessed you as needing. A precise breakdown of the Plymouth Housing Register is also available on the getting a council or housing association home pages. This gives a detailed breakdown of the numbers in each band, as well as information about how many households are in need of homes with differing numbers of bedrooms.
You can also download the following documents from the documents table:
- Plymouth housing register application form
- Additional information about the Plymouth housing register booklet
- Letting area stock list
Homelessness
Housing and Residential Services has a homeless unit which specialises in dealing with people who are homeless, threatened with or who may have serious domestic problems at their existing home which could result in homelessness.
The City Council has a duty to investigate cases of homelessness and depending upon circumstances can help with re-housing or provide advice and assistance.
For further information contact Housing Services Homeless Unit as above.
The City Council has adopted a strategy which is available along with associated documents on the homelessness strategy page.
Sheltered housing
An applicant needs to contact the team so that an application form can be sent out to them. A sheltered housing information pack can be downloaded from the documents table below.
Once the completed application has been received a member of the Sheltered Housing Team visits the applicant to complete a needs/support assessment and their application is then considered by the sheltered housing panel.
The applicant is then notified of the priority of their application.
The Sheltered Housing Team are based at 106 Whinbank Road, Crownhill, Plymouth, PL5 3AZ.
Initial contact should be made by post, telephone 01752 306005 or by email to sheltered@plymouth.gov.uk.
