How do I apply for sheltered housing?

The application process for sheltered housing is outlined below:

• get an application form by contacting the Sheltered Housing Team.
• fill in and return the application form
• if it is complete it will be assessed, if it is incomplete it will be sent back for the applicant to complete
• once complete an acknowledgement letter is sent along with details of when the application will be assessed
• once assessed the application will go to the monthly panel for consideration
• once the application is considered it will be awarded a suitability rating
• the application will then go on to the waiting list for a property
• the applicant will be notified that they are on the waiting list and if appropriate will be informed of their priority

Eligibility

To be eligible for sheltered housing applicants must be over 60 years of age, unless they are registered disabled in which case applicant can apply at 55 years of age.

Applicants must also show that they are in need of the sheltered housing officer support to live independently. Applicants are not accepted just because they have a housing need, for example downsizing or difficulty mastering stairs as the only reason for applying.
