Freedom of information

Plymouth and West Devon Record Office and the Freedom of Information Act

We provide free access to original records or copies of records in our search room.

All requests for information will be treated as Freedom of Information requests. Your name and address should be attached to any letter or email. Enquiries will be responded to within 20 working days.

We do not undertake detailed research for enquirers but we can provide the names of independent researchers who do this on payment of a fee to be agreed with you. The purpose of their research is to discover whether we hold the information you seek and to obtain a copy or prepare a summary of it for you. Copies of documents are available on payment of a charge which is set out in the search room and our copy on demand page.

Most of the information we hold is accessible through our Publication Scheme. This in effect means our catalogues, which are available in the search room, or on the internet on our online archive catalogues page.

Most enquiries will therefore be exempt from Freedom of Information (Section 21).
