Archive researchers (record agents)
Plymouth and West Devon Record Office cannot undertake research on behalf of enquirers.
We will confirm, on request, the availability of records held here. Brief checks of our place-name, personal name and subject indexes will be undertaken, though we cannot guarantee to do this immediately for telephone enquirers.
If it is impossible to visit the Record Office you may wish to pay an agent to make searches on your behalf. The following is a list of people who undertake such research at Plymouth and West Devon Record Office. It does not constitute a recommendation, and all arrangements are private agreements between the parties concerned.
Plymouth City Council can accept no responsibility for the quality of the work, nor for the fees charged.
Please note that, where applicable, we have indicated the range of work an agent is able to offer. In some instances the range of work offered is limited. Please try to choose an agent whose work matches your needs. When you contact the researcher with instructions please make these as clear and as specific as you can. A stamped addressed envelope or international reply coupon in the first instance is always appreciated. Please do not assume that researchers have access to a computer or email.
