Photocopying and digital imaging service
Photocopies from parish register microfiche
We can supply photocopies from parish register microfiche up to a maximum of 10 pages per order, where you can provide the full details (name/date/church) for each entry required. If you do not have the full entry details, you can find it using either the International Genealogical Index or by purchasing copies of our parish register indexes.
Please note that we do not undertake speculative searches and searches using the General Register Office Index numbers. If you cannot find out the full entry details please use our archive researcher service or visit us to search through the registers.
Parish register copies sent by post are charged at the following rate:
- £5 minimum charge (1 to 4 sheets) and 60p per additional sheet, to a maximum of 10 sheets in total
Parish register copies obtained in the Record Office are charged at the following rate:
- Reader printer (self service) 40p per sheet

Document photocopying
Our copy on demand service allows you to obtain photocopies of records held in Plymouth and West Devon Record Office. For details of the records we see our catalogues page. We can supply photocopies by post to anywhere worldwide.
You may also be asked to complete a copyright declaration form with your order and remittance. The copyright declaration form can be downloaded using the link at the bottom of this page.
Our fees and charges are as follows:
Copying charges (requested in person)
- A4 photocopy 40p per sheet
- A3 photocopy 60p per sheet
- Reader printer (self service) 40p per sheet
Copying charges (by post)
*UK postal rates are included, but large or overseas orders may have further charges added
- A4 photocopy £5 minimum charge (1 to 4 sheets)*
- 60p per additional sheet*
- A3 photocopy £6 minimum charge (1 to 4 sheets)*
- 80p per additional sheet*
- Reader printer £5 minimum charge (1 to 4 sheets)*
- 60p per additional sheet, to a maximum of 10 sheets in total*
Special services
- Baptismal copies (for official purposes) £5
- Retrieval of coroner’s records (within closure period) as authorised by Her Majesty's Coroner, including copies £10
Please note that we will not photocopy any of the following: Bound volumes of any sort; documents larger than 43cm by 30cm (17 by 12 inches); fragile documents and manuscript maps. For these items our digital copying charges apply.

Using cameras in the search room
If you wish to take photographs of material in the search room the following charge(s) apply:
- Daily rate: £2.50
- Weekly rate: £7.50
- Yearly rate: £60
The charge will entitle you to take as many photographs (within the terms of copyright regulations) over the course of the day, week, or year, as appropriate. The charges have been brought in to help to pay for some of the preservation overheads incurred in caring for the collections and are in line with charges made by many other record offices across the UK.
Digital and professional copying by Record office staff
The following are not on demand services. Please allow 14 days for delivery in the UK.
Digital camera images
- £6 per image (sent by email at no extra charge or on a CD for £1 extra)
- Digital camera images printed out on paper in full colour £7 per image
Western Morning News photographs printed from negatives
- Digital scanned images, £6 per image (sent by email at no extra charge or on a CD for £1 extra)
- Digital scanned images printed out on paper in greyscale or full colour on photo quality paper, £7 per image
- For 10" x 8" prints and machine prints, please email us for a quote
- Delivery time is a maximum of 14 days. Exact time will be notified at the time of ordering
