By train (bus from Plymouth railway station)

Most long distance trains to the Westcountry either terminate at Plymouth or stop at Plymouth en route to Penzance or Newquay. A good local service also operates from stations in Cornwall to Plymouth.

By bus

Plymouth Citybus service 45/45A passes Plymouth railway station every half hour from the bus stop on the main road (not the bus stop in the station forecourt). It stops at the bottom of Clare Place in Sutton Road, next to Sutton Snax's, a short walk from the Record Office. The full route of this bus and times are shown below.

Outside Sutton Snax's:

  • Service 45/45A every half hour from Torpoint ferry - Devonport Park Avenue or Stoke Village - Millbridge - railway station and the city centre (Royal Parade) to Coxside then continues to Cattedown

Opposite Sutton Snax's:

  • Service 45/45A every half hour to the city centre (Royal Parade) - railway station - Millbridge - Devonport Park Avenue or Stoke Village - Torpoint ferry

Times

  • Buses depart from the railway station (main road): Service 45/45A at 23 and 53 minutes past each hour
  • Buses depart from the city centre (Stop A9): Service 45/45A at 1 and 31 minutes past each hour
  • Buses return to the city centre and railway station: Service 45/45A at 14 and 44 minutes past each hour

The service 45/45A is not normally operated by a low floor bus. Low floor buses operate along Exeter Street which is a five to 10 minute walk from the Record Office.

Two long distance buses stop outside the Vue Cinema complex (a five minute walk away):

  • X80 operates half hourly Torquay - Paignton - Totnes - Dartington - South Brent - Ivybridge - Lee Mill - Plympton - Coxside - city centre (bus station)
  • X38 operates hourly Exeter (bus station) - Drumbridges - Ashburton - Buckfastleigh - Coxside - city centre (bus station) - then return to Exeter
  • Buses arrive from/depart to Exeter: X38 at 9.55am; then at 55 minutes past each hour until 3.55pm, 5.13pm and 6.13pm. This bus also departs from the Cattedown Roundabout bus stop (10 minute walk) at 12 minutes past each hour on its return to Exeter.
