Events advice

Are you thinking of putting on an outdoor event? Not sure what to do or where to go next? Then the Events Safety Group may be able to help you.

The Plymouth Events Safety Group (ESG)

The Events Safety Group deal with safety at public events and should not be confused with the Safety Advisory Group (SAG) which is a statutory body dealing with safety at sports grounds.

The core members of the Events Safety Group comprise senior officers from the Council and all the emergency services working in the city.

ESG’s main objectives are:

  • to promote high levels of safety and welfare at events by giving advice
  • to promote good practice in safety and welfare planning for events
  • to ensure events cause minimal adverse impact on the local population and surrounding infrastructure

Its purpose is to meet regularly to consider forthcoming events and to give advice to organisers.

General advice and safety guidance for arranging an outdoor event is available below:

Please note: The ESG is not responsible for granting licenses for events, please visit the permits and licences page for more information.

Diamond Jubilee street parties

If you are thinking about holding a street party on the public highway (any road or footway maintained by Plymouth Transport and Highways) you will need to apply for a Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (TTRO). Please visit our Diamond Jubilee page for more information.
