Complaints-handling bodies
The Adjudicator's Office investigates on behalf of the public and companies complaints against the Inland Revenue (including the Tax Credit Office and the Child Benefit Office), the Valuation Office Agency, the Public Guardianship Office and the Insolvency Service.
The ASA is an independent body that investigates complaints on behalf of the public and judges advertising, direct marketing and sales promotion against an agreed set of codes.
The Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner investigates complaints about the competence of an advisor and their fitness to be an advisor, judged against the Commissioner's Rules and Code of Standards.
The Office of the Independent Adjudicator for Higher Education investigates complaints on behalf of registered students against Higher Education Institutions participating in the scheme.
The ICE investigates on behalf of the public complaints against the Child Support Agency.
The ICA investigates on behalf of anyone with an interest in the inspections or other activities of Ofsted or the ALI. Complaints may be made by head teachers and staff, parents, training providers, school or college governors, child care providers, local authorities or anyone else affected by a report or decision by Ofsted or the ALI.
The ICR investigates complaints about the following organisations: Land Registry, The Audit Commission, The Charity Commission, The Housing Corporation and The National Archives.
The IPCC (formerly the Police Complaints Authority) investigates on behalf of the public complaints against people serving with the police.
The IRS investigates on behalf of customers complaints against decisions made in Jobcentre Plus offices distributing the discretionary Social Fund.
The ICO investigates on behalf of the public complaints made in respect of data protection and freedom of information.
The Office of the Commissioner for Public Appointments monitors, regulates and advises on ministerial appointments to the boards of executive and advisory non-departmental public bodies (Quangos), NHS bodies, public corporations, nationalised industries, and utility regulators, and investigates complaints about such appointments.
