Children's search engines
Yahooligans
A version of the Yahoo search engine and directory designed for children. Search for something specific or browse through the categories. Each site has been chosen by experienced educators. US bias
Ask for Kids
Works in the same way as Ask. Ask a question and Ask will try and find the answer for you. All the answers have been vetted for their appropriateness for children. There is a US bias though.
Filtering options
Most major search engines offer filtering options that attempt to keep out material unsuitable for children. These are not perfect and it's possible that some material may get past them while safe material may be filtered out.
