Borrowing from your library
If the item you want isn't on our library catalogue our requests service may be able to find it for you.
Books
- For the first six weeks of membership you can borrow up to six books.
- After six weeks you can borrow up to twelve books.
- Books are generally issued for three weeks and there is a charge of 13p per day for overdue items unless you renew them.

If you like discussing books join one of our reading groups or have a go yourself at one of our writers groups.
Music
CDs can be borrowed from the following libraries:
All CDs, including box sets cost £1 per week to hire, then 25p per day, to a maximum of £6.50.
You can hire up to six CDs.
The Central Library also loans songbooks, vocal scores, instrumental music, play scripts and books on music, theatre and dance.
Advance payment
By paying in advance you will receive 50 per cent extra value credit. £10 will buy £15 credit, £20 will buy £30 credit and so on. The credit can be used for any library transactions such as hire charges, fines, book sales or printing.
DVDs
These libraries have DVDs for hire:
Premium DVDs cost £3 for three days. Other DVDs cost £2.50 per week. Value DVDs are £1.50 for a week.
You can hire up to four DVDs.

Audio books
All libraries have a selection of audio books for loan. These are free to borrow.
You can borrow up to eight audio books.
Search the Library catalogue for audio books or ask to see a copy of Telling Tales a printed directory of books on tape, available in all libraries or for purchase.
Language courses
Language courses are available in the following libraries:
One item or a boxed set of two items costs £1 per week.
A boxed set of three or more items costs £5 for a three week loan.
