About the Somers Cocks catalogue

The Somers Cocks catalogue was compiled during the 1970s by renowned local historian John Somers Cocks. It consists of 3,500 prints held in libraries throughout Devon.

The Local Studies Department in the Central Library holds more than 600 of the prints of Devon and Plymouth views dating from the early-eighteenth century to the late-nineteenth century.

The images show the natural Devon and Plymouth landscapes, and views of important architecture, such as churches and castles, towns, villages and ancient remains. Scenes of Plymouth feature seascapes, the naval base and military sites.
