Boats and boatpersons licence
Boat licence
A licence is required for the carriage of passengers for hire to and from landing stages within the Plymouth area including the waters of Plymouth Sound and the Hamoaze. Boats are subject to a survey and safety check in accordance with the codes of practice for safety of pleasure hire craft.
Boatman's licence
All licensed boats require the operator to have a boatman's licence. Anyone wishing to obtain this licence is required to pass an examination in practical boat work, and an oral theory test covering navigation, local knowledge and sea safety.
A syllabus can be obtained from the Boat Licensing and Moorings Officer's office.
