Plymouth in Bloom 2008
Plymouth has been entering the Royal Horticultural Society South West in Bloom competition since 2002. Over the years we have achieved many awards, however, to encourage more local involvement we decided to start promoting a Plymouth in Bloom competition in 2006. This encouraged local businesses and communities of all sizes to work together and make a positive lasting improvement and help create a safer, cleaner and greener local environment.
This year we have been entered into the regional South West in Bloom and European (Entente Florale) competition. There are various entry categories but Plymouth will enter the 'city' category.
In 2007 we scooped the gold award (South West Tourism Trophy) in South West in Bloom and won the gold award in Britain in Bloom. Following our success in Britain in Bloom we have been selected by the Royal Horticultural Society to represent the United Kingdom in Entente Florale 2008.
Judges will be touring the city during July and August assessing the quality of planting, design, maintenance and floral displays, as well as our work in improving the local environment. Visit the judging criteria page for details of what they will be looking for.
It is the first time that Plymouth has been chosen to take part in the European competition and entrants are currently invited to only take part once in this prestigious event. There are no winners but everybody's aim is to win Gold!
There are many ways that you as residents, community groups, schools, businesses and organisations can help support Plymouth's entry, from sponsoring sites around the city to entering our local Plymouth in Bloom competition.
To find out more about how you can support Plymouth in Bloom 2008 please contact us using the details at the top of the page.
