Park services recycling
Committed to recycling
Park Services have been committed to recycling for more than fifteen years. Originally the team began to recycle their tree waste by using mobile wood chippers, and considered themselves to be one of the first local authorities to start using this method.
Since then we have taken recycling a stage further and recycle 100% of our green waste. To achieve this we have gone into partnership with a local firm - ECOSI (Ecological Sciences Ltd).
They shred all our green waste to produce woodchip for mulching or composted soil conditioner, which we sell on to the public and use ourselves.
Timber that is to large to be chipped is sold as logs for firewood or traded to a local farmer in exchange for farmyard manure to add to our flower beds.
All compost that is used in hanging baskets and barrier boxes is peat free. Coir compost is used for this purpose.
All wild flower meadow grass is baled in October and is traded to a local farmer to use for silage, winter feed etc. All office paper is recycled and the seats that are installed in our parks are made from recycled plastic.
