Accessibility

We have worked with the disabled community, local and national disability sports organisations and access specialists to ensure that the Plymouth Life Centre is accessible for all users.

As well as dedicated disabled parking, key features include:

• Level access throughout the building to all facilities, with ramps for wheelchair users.
• Independent access into both the 50-metre pool and diving pool, with removeable manual hoists and a special scissor lift that has not been used anywhere else in the UK.
• Moveable floors within the swimming pools to allow for competitive disabled swimming. Starting blocks and timing pads have been added to the moveable boom, so that the pool size can be reduced from 50 metres to 25 metres.
• Accessible toilets and changing accommodation linked with all sports areas.
• 'Changing places' provision for people with profound disabilities, with fully accessible toilets and showers, hoists, changing beds, wider doors and lockers and storage for wheelchairs.
• Disabled bowls buggies.
• An 'inclusive fitness' accredited suite.
• Floor-level trampolines in the dry dive area.
• An accessible climbing facility, with a platform lift to the high-level aerial experience
• Lifts serving all floors of the four-storey building.
• Enlarged turnstiles in the reception area and wide doors to accommodate sports wheelchairs.
• Raised lettering on every door sign throughout the building.
