Club accreditation

What is this club accreditation scheme about?

Plymouth City Council’s ‘Good Practice Club Accreditation’ scheme provides a cross-sport recognition for sports clubs that are committed to providing a safer environment. It is designed to help new and existing clubs to develop, improve and promote the way they operate.

It will also help clubs in their quest to achieve their own National Governing Body (NGB) accreditation schemes or Sport England's Clubmark award.

Who can apply?

Any Plymouth based sports club can apply to the scheme and must be able to demonstrate that they meet all the criteria to achieve then award.

What are the benefits?

Sports Clubs who have achieved Plymouth City Council’s Good Practice Club Accreditation can expect the following benefits:

  • Discount on all workshops and courses organised by the Sports Development Unit
  • Promotion of your club’s activities
  • Support to achieve your own National Governing Bodies accreditation
  • Help and advice on attracting funding
  • Involvement with the Sports Development Unit’s activity programmes and events

How will it help my club?

By achieving club accreditation your club will gain public recognition and be able to promote itself as a well run club.

Clubs will be able to demonstrate to parents/carers that they have a full understanding of child protection issues that implement best practice, and have an inclusive and equitable approach to all.

Through improved policies and procedures your club will also be able to provide quality activities that give young people the opportunity to develop, which in return will increase membership and encourage lifelong participation.

With structured club development plans, clubs will be able to support the personal development of their coaches and volunteers and identify and obtain additional funding.

How can my club achieve club accreditation?

The scheme is free of charge and clubs can apply by completing a self-assessment form below, providing the necessary supporting evidence.

Staff from the Sports Development Unit are happy to support clubs with their application.

What happens next?

Clubs will be assessed against the set criteria and will only be awarded with good practice club accreditation once the criteria has been met.

Successful clubs will receive a certificate which they can display and will be able to use the accreditation logo on club literature and promotional materials.
