Funding
There are many funding bodies that are willing to fund worthwhile sports projects, specialising in capital, revenue and individual funding.
The amount of funding available to you will depend on the scale of your project and the criteria set by each funding body. Do plan in advance as most funders will only give you funding in advance and they often take up to 3 months to consider and process your application.
The Sports Development Unit can offer funding advice and support on a number of funding sources, including Awards for All and the Local Network Fund.
Plymouth City Council is committed to supporting individuals, clubs and organisations to create opportunities to develop sport within Plymouth. Visit the sports and recreational grant aid page for more information.
Club accreditation
Many National Governing Bodies (NGBs) of sport have introduced accreditation schemes that are tailored towards their own sporting requirements. Sport England has also developed a scheme called Club Mark, which is specifically aimed at clubs with junior sections.
The Sports Development Unit is able to offer guidance on these schemes that enable clubs to be recognised as following best practice.
They have also devised a local accreditation scheme to encourage clubs to take the first steps towards NGB accreditation. The scheme is free of charge and staff from the Sports Development Unit are available to support any clubs through this process.
To find out more about the Plymouth City Council's club accreditation scheme visit the club accreditation page.
School/club partnerships
The Sport Development Unit can help sports clubs and organisations to establish and develop partnerships with schools. Start or increase junior membership, create links to other local initiatives, support club open days/taster sessions/festivals and other activities aimed at increasing junior participation.
Whatever you would like to achieve, the Sports Development Unit can assist and support your club/organisation to plan and link with other local initiatives, such as Active Sports and the Schools Sports Co-ordinator Programme.
