Devon Games to Inspire

What is Devon Games to Inspire?

The Devon Games to Inspire (formally known as the Devon Youth Games) is an Olympic style event featuring a range of sporting competitions for 8 to 16 year olds. All 10 local authorities within Devon take part and Plymouth’s Sports Development coordinate trials and select teams that will represent the city at this event.

What is the aim of the games?

The games aim to:

  • celebrate youth sport
  • provide a focus and tangible outcome for sports development work
  • create a spirit of friendly co-operation between authorities in Devon
  • provide a new level of competition for young people with sporting potential, under county level
  • encourage links between schools, governing bodies of sport, leisure departments and voluntary sports clubs

When is the next event taking place?

The next event will take place in Okehampton, West Devon on Saturday 30 June 2012.

Previous overall local authority and fair play winners

The presentation of the fair play trophy has been an annual feature since 1999 and the overall local authority winner’s trophy since 2001.

Points are awarded at the end of each event based on fair play and final placings. Trophies are presented at the closing ceremony to the local authorities who have shown the best fair play and performed the best overall.
