Disability sport
There are many organizations that promote disability sport and that offer advice and support to people with disabilities wanting to participate in physical activity and sport. A few are listed below:
Association of Wheelchair Children (AWC) is a specialist national charity providing expert wheelchair training and advice to wheelchair-using children and their families across the UK.
British Blind Sport (BBS) is a national registered charity based in Leamington Spa. Since its beginnings as a registered charity in 1976, British Blind Sport has become the leading voice for visually impaired people in the world of sport and leisure, both at home and internationally.
British Wheelchair Racing Association is run by the athletes themselves who give up time to promote the sport in this country.
CP (Cerebral Palsy) Sport is the sports organisation for people with cerebral palsy, providing sporting opportunities to individuals of all ages and at all levels from the recreational right through to paralympic competition.
Disability Football is a directory which shares information and increases awareness of footballing opportunities for disabled people. It is a non profit making charitable venture, which was designed as a resource for those involved or wanting to get involved in disability football.
Disability Sport Events (DSE) creates opportunities for participation in sport for people with all disabilities. DSE ensures that from grass roots level to international standard, disabled sportspeople can participate in sport, from beginners, who want to develop their talent, to top British disabled sports people.
Dwarf Athletic Association UK aims to make regular sporting opportunity accessible and enjoyable to anyone and everyone of restricted growth in the United Kingdom, regardless of their race, colour, ethnic origin, gender, location, sporting ability or financial support.
English Federation of Disability Sport (EFDS) is the national body responsible for disabled people in England. They work closely with the following five National Disability Sports Organisations recognized by Sport England; British Amputees and Les Autres Sports Association, British Blind Sport, WheelPower (British Wheelchair Sport), Mencap Sport and UK Deaf Sport.
Handigolf is for physically disabled people who have to be seated to play all golf shots. It was started in 1988 and is now promoted by the UK charity, The Handigolf Foundation.
Inclusive Fitness Initiative (IFI) continues to evolve, pushing the boundaries of inclusive fitness provision, and challenging the industry to continuously raise the bar, meeting disabled people’s rising expectations.
International Paralympic Committee (IPC) is the global governing body of the Paralympic Movement. The IPC organizes the summer and winter Paralympic Games, and serves as the International Federation for 12 sports, for which it supervises and co-ordinates the World Championships and other competitions.
Mencap is the UK's leading learning disability charity working with people with learning disabilities and their families and carers.
Sportability is a British registered charity which provides sporting and adventurous activities for people with all forms of paralysis. Activities include everything from Archery to Canoeing, Gliding to Shooting, Quad-biking to Scuba-Diving, Land-yachting, Falconry and Fishing.
UK Deaf Sport aims to encourage people to participate, to enjoy and to excel at sport. UK Deaf Sport influences positive changes and opportunities in sports culture, policy and procedure by arranging partnerships with key decision makers, sports councils and National Governing Bodies.

Wheelchair Football works closely with The Wheelchair Football Association to provide players with the best mechanical football play devices, for safe enjoyable play of football, as close as possible to able-bodied player rules. Wheelchair football is based on 5-a-side rules.
WheelPower is the national charity for wheelchair sport and helps people that become disabled due to an accident or illness, and many others with disabilities to achieve their sporting dreams.
Whizz -kidz provides customised wheelchairs, tricycles and other specialised mobility equipment, wheelchair training, information and advice to change the lives of disabled children across the UK.
