History of Sports Bug

Sports Bug was first launched on the eve of the New Millennium, when hundreds of people took part in a free sporting festival at Central Park as part of the celebrations. The festival offered a variety of sporting opportunities through formal coaching sessions, informal 'have a go' sessions and demonstrations. Sports Bug has grown each year and is now an established event organised by Plymouth City Council’s Sports Development Unit, and supported by the Plymouth Sport Forum.

Once again we have been well supported by the Public Health Development Unit to enable local sports clubs and leisure providers to promote a week of free activities for Sports Bug 2006.

The aim is to raise awareness of the vast array of opportunities being provided across the city, to promote the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and hopefully increase the amount of people taking part in regular physical activity.
