Sport pitches

Plymouth City Council's sport pitches are maintained by the Park Services Department. Use the links below to find out where the parks are in the city.

Please note: senior and junior football pitches, rugby pitches and cricket pitches (unless leased) are booked for the season by league clubs. However it is possible to book a pitch on a casual basis by contacting the Park Services Team.

Baseball pitch

The Parks Services Team maintain one baseball diamond in the city which is at Central Park, Outland Road, Milehouse.

Bowling greens

Eight bowling greens are open from May to the end of September. Though club members use the greens for pleasure and competitions regularly, there are rinks available for non-members to use.

It should be noted that:

  • the bowling greens are self stewarded by club members and therefore are only open to the public when a member is present
  • tickets to bowl can be purchased at each bowling green from the club steward
  • smooth delivery of the wood on to the surface of the green is required, as bouncing woods can cause considerable damage to the playing surface

The steward would hold the right to stop any person bowling who they thought were damaging a green.

Grass football pitches

The Parks Service team are responsible for 77 football pitches, of four categories:

  • Plympton St Mary Playing Field, Linketty Lane, Plympton - 3

Five a side pitches do not have to be booked, but are in locations, (generally near playgrounds) listed for children/young adults to use if they wish. The Park Services Team do not mark the pitches, but do supply goal posts and check them weekly for Health and Saftey reason.

Cricket pitches

The Park Services team are responsible for the maintenance of five cricket pitches, two of which are leased. These pitches cannot be booked on a casual basis.

The Park Services Team is responsible for 15 rugby facilities that come in two categories:

Tennis courts

Public tennis courts are open all year round and available at no charge. This does not apply to courts that have been leased by tennis clubs. At these locations courts are available but the club will make a charge for there use.
