Reynolds Paintings at Port Eliot
Port Eliot, St Germans
Until 10 June, 2pm to 6pm (last entries at 5pm)
In early 2007, we acquired 23 portraits from the Trustees of the Port Eliot Estate through the acceptance in lieu scheme. The core of the portraits is a group of 14 works by Sir Joshua Reynolds, one of Plymouth’s most famous artists, with a further nine artworks painted by some of his contemporaries.
Port Eliot, the family home of Lord and Lady St Germans, is now open to the public so that these works of art can be seen in their traditional setting. In addition, visitors can look around the gardens and see inside a house which has evolved from a medieval monastery into a family home. Port Eliot has been in continuous occupation by the Eliot family since 1560 and includes the Round Room painted with a mural by Robert Lenkiewicz.
For admission details and other information please visit the Port Eliot website.

Plymouth Lord Mayor’s Day
Plymouth Hoe
Saturday 17 May 2008, from 11am
Traditionally it’s an opportunity for newly elected Lord Mayor as the city’s first citizen to meet the public of the city.
Lord Mayor’s Day is held in Plymouth annually, as a fund-raising family day. Starting on Plymouth Hoe, a long procession of floats makes its way from the Hoe to Plymouth city centre providing a lively spectacle of colour and fun.
A theme is set each year and competitors from local companies, youth groups and communities all compete by making a float which best illustrates the chosen idea.
Clowns and acrobats also march in procession together with majorettes and marching bands.
Plymouth Sound will be providing entertainment on the Hoe throughout the day with an amazing programme of local music.
Maritime Plymouth have pulled together major players from the marine industry for an outstanding Marine Showcase outside the Civic Centre.
This year’s objective is to make the day as inclusive as possible. The theme is 'A Celebration of the City and its People'.
It is not too late to participate contact events@plymouth.gov.uk or call 01752 307172/307024.
Extra parking spaces will be available on the grassed area at the Hoe Promenade for blue badge holders after 10am (via Elliot Street entrance to the Hoe).
Road closures will be in place along the parade route from 1pm and vehicles will not be allowed to leave the Hoe during the period 1pm to 4pm.
