News and views

We aim to make it easy for local residents, visitors and businesses to find out about our services and policies and have a say about how they are developed.

We have a duty to explain to local residents how we spend their money and how well we're providing services, as well as ensure that they can find out who's making decisions and why.

Sometimes the Council gets things wrong and we aim to explain why this has happened and what we are doing about it.

The media plays an important role in providing this information and the Corporate Communications Unit responds to more than 4,000 media enquires a year. We also issue more than 350 press releases. Our news section provides regular updates on all the latest Council news and campaigns.

As part of our ongoing efforts to improve services we regularly consult local residents and businesses. Information about current consultation exercises and other ways in which you can have your say is available on these pages.

Media enquiries

Our policy is for all non-political media enquiries to be routed through our Corporate Communications Unit. The Unit will either provide a response or direct journalists to the most appropriate Council officer or councillor. Journalists should always direct calls through the Communications Unit to ensure enquiries are dealt with quickly.

The Communications Unit can be contacted on: 01752 307898, 304913 and 304049 or by email to communications@plymouth.gov.uk.
