NHS and local authority staff information
Adult Protection is a multi-agency approach involving social services, NHS Plymouth, Devon and Cornwall Constabulary, the Crown Prosecution Service as well as care homes, housing and the voluntary sector.
Background
The Government's 'No Secrets: Guidance on developing and implementing multi-agency policies and procedures to protect Vulnerable Adults from Abuse' states that all statutory agencies and the independent and voluntary sectors should work together to create a multi-agency framework to prevent abuse where possible. If, however, the preventive strategy fails, they must ensure that procedures are in place for dealing with incidents of abuse.
The council’s adult social care department plays the coordinating role within this multi-agency framework and Plymouth’s multi agency procedures have been developed since 2002. We have two key adult protection groups in Plymouth, Safeguarding Adult’s Board and Supporting Lead Officers Group.
