Direct payments
-

What are direct payments?
A direct payment is money you can get instead of Services, if you prefer.
It gives you more choice and control over how you get support.
-
A direct payments support service is in place to support people in managing the direct payment. -

How can I claim direct payments?
Adult Social Care Services must assess you as needing services and can then give you money to buy the services.
-

Who will be accepted?
The person claiming direct payments must be assessed and agree to have community care support.
You must be able to manage all the work involved with the payments alone or with help if you need it.
A direct payment must be paid to the you, or someone who has said that they will get the payment for you.
-

You can't get a direct payment if you are held under some mental health laws.
Direct payments should not be used to pay for services from a partner or relative in the same household.
-

People receiving direct payments cannot use them to buy long-term residential care.
They cannot buy Local Authority or NHS services.
-

You can get a booklet called 'A guide to receiving direct payments from your local council' and 'A parents guide to direct payments' from the Department of Health.
