Meeting the cost of care
If you have capital or savings worth over £23,250 you will have to pay the full cost of the care.
If you are thinking of moving to a care home or have been paying for your own care in a care home and want to see if Plymouth City Council can help you with the fees, you must first have your needs assessed by the Council to see if you are eligible for adult social care support.
After your social care needs have been assessed, and if you are eligible for social care support, we will conduct a financial assessment. This will decide whether or not you have sufficient money to pay towards some or all of the cost of the support your needs.
If you would like an assessment from the Council, please contact adult social care on 01752 668000.
In all circumstances where accommodation is provided you will be required to make a contribution towards the cost of that accommodation, even if you are receiving benefits paid for by the Department of Work and Pensions. The only exception to this is when someone is placed in accommodation under section 117 of the Mental Health Act or your care is provided by the Local Health Authority.
Factsheets are available to download below, including frequently asked questions and information for people who own a property.
