Better care, higher standards

The better care, higher standards draft charter document has been jointly produced by Plymouth City Council Community Services department and the Plymouth Teaching Primary Care Trust.

The aim of the charter is to improve the quality of services and support provided to adults and older people who may have difficulties due to long term illness, old age or disability, and to their carers. The charter also applies to services and support provided by other organisations acting on behalf of Plymouth City Council and the Primary Care Trust.

The charter

The charter includes standards set nationally for social care, health and housing services, as well as local standards, and representative groups are currently being consulted about its content and layout.

It highlights to people what levels of service and support that they can expect from providers, what they can do if they feel that these standards are not being met, and how performance will be measured against them. Quality is very important to both partners, and it is hoped that the charter will help to improve communication between providers, service users and carers.

The standards include information on areas such as the speed of response to a request for an assessment, provision of equipment and services, and how telephone calls and letters are handled.

The charter will be reviewed once a year, using your feedback and our own assessment of how we have performed against the targets set out in the charter.

You can take part in the better care higher standards consultation by visiting our consultation page and completing our online questionnaire, or alternatively you can download a copy of the questionnaire below, fill it in by hand and post it back to us.

This consultation ends on the 28 March 2008. Once analysed, feedback will be displayed on this page for everyone to see.
