Support for adopted adults

Adoption has traditionally been treated as highly confidential and in the 1960s and 1970s thousands of babies were adopted and all ties with their birth family cut. Many of these babies grew up wanting to know about their origins and it is now accepted that understanding one's past is crucial to a person's sense of identity.

We understand that adoption has lifelong implications for everyone involved, and offer comprehensive support services for adults who were adopted as a child and either live in Plymouth or were adopted in Plymouth. If you do not live in the Plymouth area then we can put you in touch with services closer to you.

Coming to terms with adoption or tracing your birth relatives can be a very emotional and traumatic experience. We will help you every step of the way, helping you trace your birth relatives as long as you are over 18. Our specialist post adoption social workers will help you work through your experiences and understand the consequences that tracing your birth relatives could have. All our post adoption services are free of charge.

Could you give a child the same chance your adopters gave you?
