Finance

A young persons legal status can effect their financial entitlement. Please see the various categories below:

Eligible young person

This group of young people, by definition are still looked after. They will receive all the benefits of the looked after system but will not receive allowances from this scheme until they move to an independent living situation or become relevant.

All financial agreements will be detailed in the young persons pathway plan.

Relevant young person

This group of young people are entitled to receive the following (for full allowance details please refer to the 16+ Service).

  • Housing costs
  • Personal allowance
  • Education/training top up
  • Leaving care grant
  • Starting work, training course or college
  • Higher education
  • Birthday and festival allowances
  • Holiday allowances
  • Travel costs

All financial agreements will be detailed in the young persons pathway plan.

Former relevant young person

This group of young people are entitled to receive the following (for full allowance details please refer to the 16+ Service).

  • Assistance with employment
  • Assistance with education and training
  • Assistance in general
  • Housing costs for vacation accommodation if they are engaged in higher education or residential further education

All financial agreements will be detailed in the young persons pathway plan.

Qualifying young people over 16

This group of young people are entitled to receive the following (for full allowance details please refer to the 16+ Service).

  • Assistance with education and training
  • Assistance in general
  • Housing costs for vacation accommodation, if needed if they are engaged in higher education or residential further education.

All financial agreements will be detailed in the young persons pathway plan. Advice in relation to specific young people can be sought from the 16+ Service.
