Safeguarding Children with Disabilities (DIA) - New course
The Plymouth Safeguarding Children Board (PSCB) offers a range of up-to-date statutory training in areas of Best Practice concerning Safeguarding Children and Child Protection. All courses are inter-agency, offering participants the opportunity to meet practitioners and managers from a variety of agencies, to better understand the essential inter-agency nature of all child protection work in Plymouth.
Understanding Child Protection (CPF) is the gateway course to all PSCB training and learning opportunities. Once completed, successful participants can access all other PSCB courses including Child Protection for Children with Disabilities.
This course provides participants with the information and context necessary to be alert to signals that a disabled child may be suffering as a result of abuse, for all workers in any agencies accessed by children, young people and/or their parents and families; practitioners across all sectors, and their managers. The programme is delivered by the specialist practitioners from the PSCB and Plymouth City Council Social Care for Children with Disabilities Service.
This course offers detailed instruction to understand the reality of the vulnerability of disabled children to abuse; recognise and respond to concerns about disabled children; ensure that the needs of disabled children are addressed within the child protection process; understand legislative changes and how they impact upon services to disabled children; be aware of relevant changes to legislation; have working knowledge of policies and procedures, including what to do if a disabled child is a victim of abuse; know what to do if a disabled child discloses abuse and recognise the impact upon workers.
The course details and handbook can be downloaded below:
