Birth certificate
In this country your birth is registered by a parent and a certificate is given to the parent. A copy of this certificate should be on your social work file, particularly if you are looked after because of a Care Order.
If you are adopted, you will have a new certificate with your new name on it. However, at 18 years of age you can apply for a copy of your first birth certificate which will give details of your birth parents
When you leave care at 18 years, you will be given your birth certificate. If you need a copy before then, you should ask your social worker for one.
You should talk to your social worker if you want more information about your birth certificate.
