Child protection
All children need:
- to feel safe and secure
- health and happiness
- appropriate affection
- lots of smiles
- praise and encouragement
- to be able to talk to someone
- to be listened to
- new experiences
- respect for their feelings
- rewards and treats.
Child abuse takes many forms including physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse and neglect. Discrimination, harassment and bullying are also abusive and can harm a child, both physically and emotionally. It is Plymouth Children's Services' duty to protect children and young people in the City and this is known as child protection.
What if I am worried about a child?
Children's Services can receive information about children and young people who may be at risk of abuse from members of the public, friends or relatives, professionals (like teachers, doctors or social workers) or from the child and parents themselves.
If you are worried about the welfare of a child or children then please contact the Advice and Assessment Service to discuss your worries with a duty social worker.
