National concessionary bus pass

Top tasks

If you are of pensionable age or disabled and live in Plymouth you may be eligible for a national concessionary bus pass. Please read the information on these pages for details on how you can benefit from the scheme.

What is the national concessionary bus pass?

Everyone who is resident in England and who is of pensionable age or eligible disabled is entitled to a free bus pass giving free off-peak travel on local buses, including cross boundary services, anywhere in England. 'Off-peak' is between 9.30am and 11pm Monday to Friday and all day at weekends and on public holidays.

In Plymouth we offer an additional benefit to our residents aged 80 years and over, and those registered blind (not partially sighted) who can travel at any time of day up to 11pm on Mondays to Fridays and all day at weekends and on public holidays. This additional entitlement only applies to journeys made wholly within Plymouth. Residents will automatically receive a new pass prior to their 80th birthday to show this additional entitlement.

When visiting other parts of the country additional benefits may also be available but you should check with the local authority covering the area that you are visiting for further details.
