Transport and streets
We are continually working towards maintaining a free flowing road network and good public transport system, affording Plymouth good links with rest of the country as well as continental Europe.
Our responsibilities as a highway authority include:
- highway maintenance
- transport strategy and policy development
- road safety
- accident investigation and prevention
- developing the Local Transport Plan
- public transport subsidy and development
- promoting the use of more sustainable forms of transport
Highway maintenance includes gully cleaning, road resurfacing and markings, repairs, maintaining traffic signs, fencing and barriers and winter road maintenance.
In this section you will find information relating to traffic management and development and our work towards tackling increasing congestion. The Local Transport Plan, which focuses on reducing congestion, speed and pollution, is available to download on these pages.
There is a section on cycling in the city, with information about cycle paths and training for children and young people, as well as safety advice. You will find information on public transport services, including park and ride, community buses and social services and education transport.
Details of all our parking facilities and charges can be found on these pages, together with information on parking permits.
